NORSOK M-501 is a standard document developed by the Norwegian petroleum industry to ensure adequate safety, value adding and cost effectiveness for petroleum industry developments and operations. It is intended to replace oil company specifications for offshore installations where possible. The standard is now used globally and many specifications include which NORSOK M501 system is to be used on specific projects.

The standard document also outlines the requirement for both inspector and applicator qualification. ICorr level 2 and 3 coating inspector certification is recognised in the standard so if you are intending to carry out inspection on projects where the standard is specified you will need to be certified to a minimum of level 2.

We are proud to announce that SSPC Trainthepainter is the first and as yet only applicator training to be assessed and meet the standard (section 10.2.1). This eliminates the necessity for applicators to pre-qualify for each project where NORSOK M501 is a requirement. This is a major endorsement of the skills that SSPC Trainthepainter delivers.
