Practical Interactive Workshop
Course overview
This workshop has been created to benefit Corrodere Academy students, Engineers, Trainers, paint and equipment suppliers and contractor personnel. The day includes a number of theoretical and practical exercises.
Following an introduction to basic corrosion, volume solids, spreading rates, students will participate in reviewing a typical coating specification, calculation of areas and establishing the required quantities for each coating system.
Students will learn about pre-surface preparation techniques prior to conducting methods of surface preparation such as abrasive blast cleaning, weld spatter, sharp edges, laminations, shelling, surface contamination etc.
A comprehensive review of visual standards will be covered in the workshop. Visual standards from SSPC, NACE and ISO will be discussed and demonstrated to ensure the student is familiar with the visual standards used in the coatings industry.
The second part of the workshop will consist of inspection equipment demonstrations with practical exercises being conducted in group and single use.
Inspection equipment will be available for ambient conditions, surface profile, wet and dry film thickness, holiday detection, assessment of dust, soluble salt contamination and adhesion testing.
A review of coating defects commonly found and abrasives used for surface preparation of substrates prior to coating application will be conducted.
