QCA assessments with KAEFER
Corrodere Academy recently carried out a series of Qualified Coating Applicator (QCA) independent assessments with KAEFER UK & Ireland on site at Hinkley Point C. Over three days, 18 candidates took part in the practical requirements of the Qualified Coating Applicator Certification, with assessments completed by independent assessor Steven Slack.

The assessments went very well, and the candidates showed strong practical skills, safe working methods, and a clear sense of pride in their work.
QCA Certification, accredited by Lloyd’s Register, has been developed by Corrodere Academy to provide a guaranteed standard for coating applicators.
The qualification proves a high level of competence and any candidates who need further support receive guidance and a structured development plan to help them progress.
KAEFER chose to introduce QCA certification across their team to help raise industry standards and to recognise the skills of their operatives. As they explained, “We’re introducing QCA to raise industry standards, recognise skills, and ensure quality, safety, and pride are at the heart of everything we do.”

Assessment highlights
One highlight of the assessments was seeing Callum Smith, son of Train the painter Trainer Paul Smith, complete the first spraying practical of the assessment series. His confident and assured performance reflected the strong training culture on site.
A special mention goes to Andy Brown, who has more than 30 years of industry experience and was the first Train the painter Gold Blaster to complete the QCA blasting practical.
Andy guided Steven through every stage of the process from prechecks to blasting and finishing. His depth of knowledge and steady approach were a real example for others.
