Student of the month: Colin Thomson
Congratulations to Colin Thomson, our June Student of the Month, who achieved fantastic results on our ICorr Level 2 Coating Inspection course.
Currently working as a Fabric Maintenance Lead at Bilfinger, Colin is responsible for the quality and delivery of fabric maintenance services across multiple North Sea assets, overseeing coating, inspection and repair activities to ensure safe, compliant and efficient execution.
Reflecting on why he chose the course, Colin said:
“I decided to complete the ICorr Level 2 Coating Inspector course to strengthen my technical understanding and gain a recognised qualification that supports the decisions I make day to day in managing coating activities and quality control offshore.”
Colin found the course highly relevant to his day-to-day role, particularly enjoying the practical workshop sessions.
“The course was excellent and highly relevant to real operations. The workshop sessions, particularly with David, were a standout and helped connect the theory directly to practical application. It provided a much deeper understanding of coating systems, inspection standards, and failure mechanisms.”
Since completing the qualification, Colin has already seen the benefits in his work.
“Since completing the qualification, it has reinforced my approach to QA/QC and strengthened my ability to ensure coating work meets the required standards across multiple assets.”
He also encourages others working in the industry to take the course.
“I would recommend the course to anyone working in coatings, inspection, or fabric maintenance. It’s a valuable step for building technical knowledge.”
Looking ahead, Colin is continuing his professional development with his next goal.
“I’m now looking to continue my development and work towards achieving the ICorr Level 3 Coating Inspector qualification.”
