Progression to University of Portsmouth

Corrodere Academy students have the option to progress their studies and apply for one of the courses run by the Learning at Work department at the University of Portsmouth.  These courses allow you to study and work at the same time. They have 23 course titles available ranging from Maritime Studies, Business and Engineering at Degree (level 6) and Masters (level 7).  Courses are distance learning, allowing you to study anywhere in the world.  You can fit your studies around your job.  Depending on how many credits you need, you will study either mandatory modules, work based projects or distance learning modules.

You can use Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) to complete the course quicker.  With RPL, you use the learning you have gained from training courses, employment, voluntary work, private study and previous attendance at college and university towards your degree.  You can use RPL for up to two thirds of the credits you need for your degree. This equates to: 240 of the 360 credits you need to get an undergraduate degree and 120 of the 180 credits you need to get a postgraduate degree.  RPL can come from 3 areas:

  • A recognised qualification you have studied for and passed, for example a HNC, HND or Foundation degree
  • Rank in the Armed Forces
  • Evidence of your skills and experience which are mapped to our modules

We recommend you contact the Learning at Work department to discuss the course you are interested in, any RPL that can be assessed and we can then advise you on the next steps.
