International Women’s Day: Q&A with Rebecca Law
Q&A with Rebecca Law, Director at PSI Global Training
This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating women making an impact in the protective coatings industry. One of those inspiring women is Rebecca Law, Director at PSI Global Recruitment—one of our Train the painter affiliate providers. Rebecca played a key role in establishing PSI Global Training, adding an extra level to their recruitment offering by equipping people with the skills and certifications provided by Train the painter.
We caught up with Rebecca to hear about her journey, the challenges she has faced, and her advice for women looking to thrive in the industry.
Can you tell us about your journey into the training and industrial sector? What inspired you to pursue this career path?
After leaving school, I wasn’t sure what career path to take, so I worked in various roles, including bar work and waitressing. After a few years, I started exploring apprenticeship opportunities and came across a local advert for a role in recruitment. I was drawn to recruitment because it focused on supporting and connecting people with opportunities. I applied, attended an interview, and started the job a few weeks later. This year marks 12 years since I began my career in recruitment.
What led to the founding of PSI Global Training?
PSI Global Training was established in response to the need for skilled labour in the industrial coatings sector.
During this time, I saw first-hand the ongoing skills shortage, particularly in industrial coatings. Companies were struggling to find qualified operatives, and new talent wasn’t coming through quickly enough. That’s what led me to focus on training—helping to bridge the gap by creating pathways for people to enter and progress in the industry.
Have you faced any challenges as a woman in this industry, and how have you overcome them?
Definitely. The key has been confidence, resilience, and consistently delivering results. Over time, expertise speaks for itself, and I’ve built strong relationships based on trust and performance. Having a clear vision and surrounding myself with a supportive network has also been invaluable.
How has the industry changed in terms of gender diversity since you started?
Yes, definitely! I’ve been on several site visits, especially in the past couple of years, and I’ve noticed more women working on-site, particularly in painting roles. It’s great to see!
What advice would you give to women considering a career in the coatings industry?
Go for it! It’s a rewarding industry with plenty of opportunities for career progression. Bring your skills, confidence, and determination. Find mentors, build your network, and never stop learning. The coatings industry needs fresh talent, and women have a vital role to play in shaping its future.
At Corrodere Academy, we are proud to work with dedicated professionals like Rebecca who are helping to shape the future of the coatings industry.
Happy International Women’s Day!
