Following the extensive review and analysis of the SSPC Trainthepainter applicator training programme, Network Rail has approved the full programme including Protective Coatings Applicator, Spray Painting, Abrasive Blast Cleaning and the Coating Supervisors Course.

The official Network Rail Certificate of Authorisation reads:

Contractors shall be registered with the ICATS Scheme or SSPC Trainthepainter Scheme (or recognised equivalent scheme): At least 80% of the operatives of a Contractor employed to apply coatings to metal substrates shall be trained and accredited through a recognised Scheme; where there are fewer than 5 operatives they all shall be fully trained. When requested, Contractors shall provide evidence to the Engineer that they comply with these requirements.

Supervisors shall have successfully completed the ‘ICATS Supervisors’ training course or the MPI SSPC Trainthepainter Coating Supervisors course or equivalent.

SSPC Trainthepainter is delighted to provide this high standard of training for operatives contracted to Network Rail. We are confident Network Rail will benefit from increased levels of Health and Safety on site along with a more capable workforce having been trained comprehensively in the practical elements of coating application, spray painting and abrasive blast cleaning.

Operatives with a recognised training certificate are able to transition to SSPC Trainthepainter by attending a one day course focusing on practical training and a theoretical assessment.
